Hey Etcher,
Amazing work on the Z4R2 beta. I tried to view the video, but it's saying it's private. Can you fix that please? I'd love to see it. Thanks man!
Works great! Thanks!
Hey all,
I wanted to share these images I did for Digital Production magazine. These weapons where modeled and rendered entirely within ZBrush (render passes comped in Photoshop). Although these weapons will be used for "Thin Veil of Reality" characters, I could not resist customizing them for this occasion- it's probably my first "ZBrush Fan-Art".
Also, I want to share some information on my ZBrush hardsurface modeling workflow.
The videos and sheets below show the entire sculpting process of the pistol receiver. All the pistol parts were sculpted using the same techniques.
As I can only attach 10 files per post, I will add a second post which will include the following:
-4 reference sheets that can be loaded into Spotlight for background reference.
-a link to download a .ztl file that contains the initial shadowbox shapes of the pistol in case someone would like to use those as a starting point. (see end of post)
-a link to download some textures/alphas I used. (see end of post)
A Great Collaboration:
For this project, I had the honour to work closely with a very talented artist/ZBrush artist, fellow betatester and good friend Julian Kenning (ZBC name Julian_K). Not only is he a great visual artist but he is also a great composer. He was kind enough to create a piece of music especially for me to go along with the videos. I love to bring something extra to the presentation of my videos and it was great to "hear" this piece come to life while I worked on the vids. I need to thank Julian for that, and for the good advice and constructive criticism on my works.

A note on Dynamesh: I recorded the whole sculpting process using Z4. Now that Dynamesh has become availabe you can implement it in your workflow:
You could activate Dynamesh mode before you start using the clipping brushes to sculpt. Each time you feel that your mesh has too many areas where polygons are stretched or compressed due to the clipping you can Ctrl+drag to perform a Dynamesh remesh. Remember to set the Dynamesh resolution higher when you add finer details. A Dynamesh remesh would be in place right before you start adding finer details with alphas 'n such.

Hopefully this info is useful to someone :)

the weapons look so awesome... you did a great job! keep it up :tu::tu:
Damn! That is impressive, great work.
I just modeled that same gun, the Desert Eagle, but in blender. Very cool to see this done in zbrush.
Wow Etcher, this is great stuff to just see. Your work is always sooo clean and creative. But I really appreciate all you do to help us less skilled and talented folks get a grip on how you put these projects all together. Really great of you guys to spend so much of your time in these efforts. Thanks again Etcher and you too Julian.

great work! the guns look amazing!
Wow, geert, you're the best! :tu:
Those renders are mindblowing, worth another top row!
Wait until frenchy pilou finds out about this...
Great work Geert!
I once flipped through the magazine at a railway station.
It's great to see some ZBrush work in this mag, because in general you don't find too many ZBrush related stuff in it.
I hope that you'll write more articles in the future!
Cheers!
