It seems to work better OK with 2018. Works but using workarounds.

Now that Max 2018 doesn't support GOZ this plugin has become more relevant. The only problem is that doesn't support multiple subtools. It would be great it could support them.
When customizing the interface some buttons have very long text and/or space. For example colorize or Dynamesh.
It is possible to do a macro and use it as a shorter button. But it will not work...

Well, you are not alone. GOZ for 3ds MAX 2017 hardly works and I doubt they will update it until the next Zbrush 5.0 version... who knows.
It works with the 32 bits. But I can not see how too control the intensity of the lights. The indirect and rim lights are way too weak to be useful.
Is possible to add a shortcut to the update tree button? Or to any of the other menu of the plugin.

It seems to be the case in my tests. You could recover it with copy paste UVs from backups, but it is extra work.
