If you still want to try using max to import/export, turn up your precision to at least 10. (I use 12, the maximum.)

I'm guessing that you are using 3ds max R7 and that you have over lapping UV elements. Perhaps you are trying to mirror UVs in order to conserve texture space? There is a bug in Render To Texture in...
