I am REALLY digging this WIP man. details and textures are looking very nice. I am trying to do a similar detail pass with the chick im working on, and looking at your WIP really inspires me to keep plugging away. Def. going to bookmark this thread and keep my eye out for the final render!

Hey guys time for an update.

    palanivel: Thanks

JNasconeArt: Thanks for your comments. I was actually thinking that I could take a bit of inspiration from your female character so the feeling is mutual.

Here's what I've got so far on the low poly for the machete. The textures are still being worked on.

I'm not sure about the orange cord so any input on that would be welcome. I like it, but my colleges at work aren't so sure so please let me know what you think.

I love you`re stuff! especially the wrapping around the handles!
I am looking/drawing for days to make a nice wrapping bandage.

Could you explain how you dit that? is it a alpha or something?

    Many thanks!

hey chap, marvellous work you got here!

personally i'm not sure about the orange cords as they seem to be a bit newish for what you're going for but if you like it i say keep 'em as it's your vision.

would like to see the knife texture look a bit more used (ooh that's bad english...) maybe with some nicks and sharpening marks.

would love to read a proper tut on this what with all the baking and things.

overall bloody brilliant. weird seeing you use max as i'm used to all you're maya stuff back in uni. bring back the monkey i say

Hey Guys Thanks for the feedback.

    Sparky3d: Thanks

    sleepy dragon:
Thanks for your support of the orange cord. The metal texture was hand painted rather than from any specific source and was just painted onto the areas needed so I don't think that it would be much use to you.

Winkelwagen: Cheers. If you look on the previous page there is an exposed view of how the wrapping is constructed.

wethand: Thanks. The sharp edge was done by building the low poly in such a way that when subdivided it would create a crisp edge. To do this I just cut an extra loop almost next to the one right on the edge.

    stanley82:
    Cheers.

vin209: Thanks allot. the texture on the machete is not finished and I plan to dirty the whole thing up some which may solve this issue, but I agree with your comment. It would be nice to do a tutorial but really don't have the time at the moment. I had forgotten about the monkey lol good times

Here's a quick update with an image of Kai with his weapons in different clothing configurations. I'm gonna start working on rigging him up so that I can get some more interesting poses on the go.
