Alien Sea Monster WIP

Hello everyone!

I’m excited to post my first sculpt using Zbrush 4R2. The creature is an alien sea-monster from my imagination.

I have been a traditional sculptor since late 2009. I just recently started using Zbrush, and I’m very happy with it. I’m wondering what some of the veterans on this forum might think of my progress so far. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please let me know. Brutally honest criticism and critique is much appreciated!

By the way, I changed the material to a gray, but as you can see some parts of the tail are still showing up as red wax. Does anyone know the solution to this and what may have caused it? Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a tutorial or method of how to make tendrils in Zbrush. I am working on a 3d sea monster sculpt. However, I decided that I wanted to create tendrils instead of tentacles.

Here’s my sculpt so far:

What I want to do is delete the suction-cups and feelers for my tentacles and turn them into slimy, bumpy tendrils.

I want tendrils that are sticky due to either a mucous like a frog’s or a chameleon’s tongue, or some sort of electrostatic adhesion, which would allow it to grasp objects and people without having to wrap around them, and then be able to release it’s prey at will or once the creature is dead.

Here are some reference photos of what I want the tendrils to look like.

A good material perhaps?

Any help is much appreciated, and please advise.

Thank you.

I Like your sculpts. To fix the material . 1) make sure your object is selected in your subtool palette, 2) select material, 3) select Mrgb , 4) Zadd and Zsub not selected. 5) Go to color tab ,click fill object. Now your creature should be all one material. I like the red choice of materials the best , like you I’m new to Zbrush so I’m not that knowledgeable on rendering within Zbrush yet. Good luck and look foward to seeing it when your done. Ronboy…

Thanks so much!!

I think I’m finished with the sculpt. I had a lot of fun, and my client is pretty happy with it. Now time to move on and learn from my errors! I love Zbrush.
