Cool Akira Project looking for VFX artists!

    Hello,

My name is Nguyen-Anh Nguyen, I'm the director of the Akira Project, a live-action fan trailer based on the manga and anime 'AKIRA' by Katsuhiro Otomo.

We are a crowd-sourced project that was financed and produced by a number of dedicated fans worldwide. We shot the trailer in November 2012 and are intending to finish it before the end of 2013.

We are looking for talented VFX artists to help us complete some of the CG shots for the production.

    - Texturing/Lighting expert to finish existing 3D scenes
    - Compositor
    - Particles effects specialist
    - Godlike Generalist :)
    - Rendering farms or access to such facilities

This is not financially compensated, but you want to get involved we will include your bio and work in our TEAM section:
    www.akira-project.com/team

You can see some our launch poster and teaser (made with 0$) below and please get in touch with me at anh@akira-project.com if you want to be part of an exciting project!

    Thanks for your time,

    Anh

Hi, the production was financed by crowd-sourcing and by my personal investment. All of the money (and more) was spent during production in november 2012. We are now at the post-production stage and that's where our team needs extra help.

    Thanks,

This is always the same scheme:

All of the money (and more) was spent during production in november 2012. We are now at the post-production stage and that's where our team needs extra help.
They are always thinking that the VFX guys will work for free!

    Default difficult.

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with Ram-Z.
This is a community where you can find both hobbists and professional artists. Even famous ones.
I know it's hard times money-wise but you cannot offer such important positions for free because, most likely, no one will reply if not telling you what Ram-Z and I am telling you.
Nevertheless, I wish you all best of luck with your project.

    Cheers,

    Fabrizio "Digitalfreaky" Bortolussi

then it look that you would have to spend more money ..
hardware and software are not free and so is electricity and skills ...

or did you get your camera for free ?
    how about the crew ?

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. I know that this is a lot to ask as a freebie, but you should know that everyone on the production and post production team are doing this for free because they are fans of Akira (the manga and anime). The camera and lighting equipment was donated by the company I work for and colleagues in the industry here in Montreal.

The money was spent on expendables, art direction, food, transportation, locations, etc... This is a fan project made not for profit, but because we all wanted to see Akira made into a proper live-action.

I know and respect the work of VFX artists, I did not come here to casually ask for free labor. I've pulled all the personal resources and contacts I have in the industry to make this work, but I just needed more help at this point. I was hoping to find Akira enthusiasts on this forum who were as passionate about this as I am and who would be interested in lending their talent and time on this project. I am not forcing anyone to do it and I absolutely meant no disrespect in asking this on this forum.

    Cheers,

    Anh
