    Default Sketchbook 2015

Well I guess I should start up a new sketchbook for 2015, I should hopefully be able to fill it with more than one thing this time. This is a project I'm re-visiting from around 2011. I'm planning on making it low-poly and hopefully getting around to animating it. Still in beginning stages.

    I'm trying to make it square-enix style-ish.

Quick update, probably gonna put some more minor folds in and then start texturing, also thinking about making the shoulder and back pieces separate.

Did some final polishing and fine details, probably going to put some more detail into that back piece and the shoes, then textures next!

Quick polypaint, probably going to dirty it up a little.

rough polypainting the sword, if you haven't been able to tell yet, I'm trying to keep these colors complementary plus white.

Gettin close to finishing this guy, did a quick and rough texture paint on him, dirtied up some of the textures, still have more work to do on those, I still have to make a couple buttons for the collar and the eyes are place-holder, I'm pretty happy with the way it's turning out though, considering this is my first real attempt at making a low poly character. On a separate note, I feel like an idiot for not knowing about xNormal before now and how great it actually is. Hoping to have this all good to go, rigged and posed soon!

Finally done! This character is 28k with the sword, (made the hair a little more dense than I probably should have) has been fully rigged and skinned, and is animation ready with a couple facial blend shapes for mild expressions just to give it some attitude. I'll post more shots later of the face and back, because the back armor has a lot of detail that isn't shown here. So stoked this is finally done, once again, definitely a learning process.

Thanks Diablo! Ya I think the normal map went a little heavy there, I actually tried to make them a little less intense, but oh well, also the eyes are intended to be final fantasy-esque so for me that was a little harder to nail down than 100% realistic.
