2016 ZBrush Awards: Vote Today!

2016 is just around the corner and we’re welcoming it early by opening up the voting for the 2nd Annual ZBrush Awards! These awards are given to artists that have been nominated by their peers here at ZBrushCentral.com. Every post from the voting year (between June 15, 2015 and June 14, 2016) will be eligible for an award!

This is your chance to recognize those artists and projects that have most inspired you throughout the year. It’s also the perfect excuse to explore: Take some time to scan back through ZBC’s archives from the last several months to discover threads and artwork that you might have missed. You may well find something that inspires you to create your own winning image!

WHEN DOES VOTING TAKE PLACE?

Voting begins immediately and will end on August 7, 2016 at midnight PST. All voting will be completed on ZBrushCentral and the announcement of the nominees for each category will take on August 10, 2016. The final winners will be revealed at the 2016 ZBrush Summit in a LiveStream that will be broadcast to the entire world!

ELIGIBILITY*

  • To qualify, works must have been posted at ZBrushCentral between June 15th, 2015 and June 14th, 2016.
  • ZBrush must have been an essential part of the creation process to qualify.
  • For collaborations (including studios), an award will be given to the group/organization as a whole and another award will be given to the individual artist whose work within the collaborative effort receives the most votes.

THE CATEGORIES ARE
IMAGE OF THE YEARAn individual 2D or 3D image that is outstanding overall. Images must be a finished, complete illustration. No WIP images; only completed images will qualify. Unlike “Sculpt of the Year,” this category is looking at the scene’s models and surroundings, both.

SCULPT OF THE YEARAn individual image showing a completed sculpt that is outstanding overall. The majority of the sculpt must have been completed in ZBrush. The model does not have to be colored/textured. It can be organic or hard surface. Unlike “Image of the Year,” this category is looking at the quality of the sculpting, alone.

ZBRUSH TO 3D PRINT OF THE YEARAn award for work completed with ZBrush and then output to 3D Print. Jewelry, toys, collectibles, statues, large sculptures or any other pieces where the ZBrush sculpts were 3D printed are eligible.

TOP ROW POST OF THE YEARTell the world which Top Row images were your favorite! Both Individual and Studio Threads featured in the Top Row are eligible.

STUDIO THREAD OF THE YEARVote for your favorite work from studios (for example, in the film, game, jewelry, toy or collectibles industries). The thread must contain images from work completed within a studio pipeline. The thread must be titled with the studio name and/or project title.

“Studio” is defined as any company working on a designated project.

GAME ART OF THE YEARUnlike “Studio Thread of the Year,” this includes individual artists’ threads showing work on a game project. It can also include any collaborative thread for a game title where several artists have posted work in one thread. Game fan art or personal sculpts of any game character do not qualify - the artwork posted must have been used within the game pipeline.

FILM ART OF THE YEARUnlike “Studio Thread of the Year,” this category includes individual artists’ threads showing work on a film project. It can also include any collaborative thread for a movie title where several artists have posted work in one thread. Film fan art or personal sculpts of any movie character do not qualify - the artwork must have been used within the film pipeline.

HOW DOES THE VOTING TAKE PLACE?

You must be logged into ZBrushCentral to vote. If you’re not a member you can register for free.

During the voting period, you will see a Vote icon on the bottom left corner of each image at ZBrushCentral that qualifies. Only images uploaded during the eligible period will display the button.

To nominate that image for this year’s ZBrush Awards, simply mouse over any eligible image to view the Vote button. Click that button and a pop-up button will appear to confirm your vote.

That’s all there is to it! We’ve made things super simple this year by eliminating the need for you to worry about what category the image might fit in. Just cast your vote and we’ll take care of the rest!

You may only vote for any given image once but may nominate any number of images throughout the year. If you see something that you think is one of the year’s best examples of ZBrush use (images or sculpts), vote for it right away! There is no need to wait and see what else might come along later in the year because if you find something else that you think is spectacular you can nominate it as well.

Of course, you also have freedom to change your mind. If you have previously nominated an image and decide that you wish to cancel that vote you may do so at any time by clicking it’s “VOTE” button again. You’ll then see the option to remove your vote.

THE 2015 WINNERS

The ZBrush Awards are truly prestigious. Sculpted in ZBrush before being cast in solid bronze, they’re absolutely beautiful – as is appropriate to recognize the year’s best artwork. And what amazing artwork it is! Here’s a look back at the winners from last year:

Image of the Year: Borhan Chou
Sculpt of the Year: Rafael Grassetti
ZBrush to 3D Print of the Year: Daniel Bel
Top Row Post of the Year: Borhan Chou
Studio Thread of the Year: Ready at Dawn
Game Art of the Year: Ready at Dawn
Film Art of the Year: Colin Thomas

ZBrushCentral Honorary Award: Rick Baker

*Pixologic reserves the right to disqualify any nominated post which at its sole discretion Pixologic believes to misrepresent ZBrush usage, fails to meet the specifications for the nominated category or is misleading of how the piece was completed.

All nominees must complete work using a registered copy of ZBrush, whether copy is owned by the individual or a studio. Nominees will be required to submit verification of eligibility.

Maybe next time around, we might could see a new minor category of “Breakdown of the Year”? Because it seems as if people are getting more and more creative and masterful in their breakdowns.

The layout styles and conciseness of some of breakdowns threads in the Forums are at times almost as artful as the artwork themselves. Many ZBrushCentral artists take breakdowns to a new level.

Even with some art images that might not win one of the other awards, their breakdown of workflows/processes are just a thing of beauty, and are of use to many other artists, even years later.

This category would not only give a little recognition back to those who put good effort in sharing their workflows, but also to further encourage folks to share some of their process and explore the art of passing down knowledge!

Keep up the good work you all do at Pixologic, and good luck to all the artists in the running for a ZBrush Award! (Sorry, I didn’t leave this contest page comment-less!)

Top Row suggestion!

I agree this category would encourage breakdowns, which are often more instructional than the ‘official’ tutorials…no slight intended to the tutorial-builders

Pixologic should also include as a ‘SEPARATE’ category: HARD SURFACE modeling. I do see that the categories above allow for either organic or hard surface, but, as the 2015 nominations show, organic will always win. ‘Seems’ to be more of that. But, I fill to encourage and showcase those artist’s that ‘mainly’ use Zbrush for hard surface sculpt (particularly now that we have ZMODELER), would be cool to see a category ‘just’ for hard surface/majority of image consist of hard surface (even if organic is used). Below are some great examples:

To start, Paul Gaboury and his cool MECH GRASS HOPPER-

And who can forget Joseph Drust’s Amazing HELMET DESIGN course-

And how about ‘How to car design’ by David Bentley-

As well as, Geert Melis ‘Etcher’-

There are tons of other AMAZING examples (such as Ofer’s ‘BIKE’, cars, Mech’s, Iron Man’s, weapons, stealth suites, IMM brushes, etc), but, I think folks get what I am attempting to point out (again, there art tons of other great examples- of finished and sculpted images). How about it Pixologic, we have until August anyway?

And one more category… CARTOON STYLE. Nough said

YES Cartoon Category will be a good idea, no representation for that it is a shame !!

jbmonge, your ‘Old Goblin’ is a great example for the CARTOON CATEGORY:
