    Default Eric's Sketchbook

Hey guys and gals. I've lurked the forums for a while but here's my first of hopefully many posts!

This is a personal project I did for my girlfriend's birthday based on a sketch she did of herself. I used fibermesh to generate most of the hair curves and had some help from Maya's paint FX for the braid. Rendered with Arnold.

Awesome work man! I really like your attention for detail with this piece, especially the shirt etc, and the background.

I agree. I would really love to know how you made the texture of her blouse

    Thanks guys!

The shirt was super simple actually. The hard part is finding the right fabric texture to use as a bump or displacement map for the cloth you're after. As long as the UV seams are in logical places and are oriented correctly it's relatively easy to iterate until you've got the right one. That's where most of the look comes from but I also brighten up the texture a bit at glancing angles to fake a fuzzy/soft look and add some fur to sell it. Hope that helps!

Great to see something a little more personal hereabouts.

Your girlfriend wearing the hair shirt favored by devotees of AutoDesk has it seems given up the comforts of this world in the pursuit of asceticism. I trust her Thesis was a triumph and the stress induced constipation induced by the vagaries and fluctuating caprices of technology have eased?

Always a fine moment when a lurker steps out of the shadows.

Greetings and welcome to the throng.

    Default Eleven Process Images

Here are some process images of the modeling and hair work:

I was also fortunate enough to have Maya only crash once while working on this, so here's a GIF of my saved render view images and some compositing stages:
