Assistant Professor/Lecturer of Digital Art: CG Environment

DigiPen Institute of Technology is a Redmond, WA based college that uses a unique hands-on, project-based curriculum designed to reinforce core academic and foundational coursework in the areas of computer engineering, software development, sound design, production animation, and game design.

The Department of Digital Arts invites applications for a full-time faculty position. The position begins August, 2017 and is subject to budget availability. The appointment is expected at the assistant professor rank, but candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment at the rank of associate professor.

Qualifications:

· Preferred:
o MFA degree in art or media related field.
o Teaching experience and/or demonstrated training experience.
o Extensive professional experience in art.

· Minimum Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s degree in art or media related field.
o Relevant industry experience is desirable.
o Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
o At least 4 years experience modeling and texturing environments in the role of Environment Artist in a game or cinematic team.
o Highly proficient in lighting and rendering in Maya.
o Exceptional skills in modeling and texturing hard and organic surfaces.
o Artistically and technically competent in shader creation techniques.
o Very proficient artistically and technically in Photoshop.
o Proficient in digital sculpting.
o A Portfolio showing exceptional CG environment creation.
o Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Activities:

· Lecture and teach in a classroom setting on a daily basis.
· Teach fundamentals and advanced topics in environment modeling, texturing and lighting using Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter.
· Provide artistic and technical support for 3D environment creation workflow.
· Provide creative direction and criticism to students on assignments. This can include environment design, modeling techniques and workflow, UV unwrap tools and strategies, texture creation, meaningful lighting, shading and rendering solutions.
· Teach problem solving – students need to constantly strive via research to optimize, fix and enhance an effective CG production pipeline.
· Study and maintain an understanding of current trends in game and cinematic animation.
· Work closely with CG and traditional art faculty to develop an ongoing and constantly improving curriculum that reflects industry trends.
· Organize and manage time efficiently for multiple classes.
· Grade, critique and input assignment data on a weekly basis.
· Act in the capacity of an academic advisor for students.
