They look as beautiful as last year's It must be amazing to feel part of such a big project, and I mean big in the literal sense but also in the amount of characters and work that goes into it. Did you see them burn? Does it make you sad?

Thanks Mariano! Thanks Sofia! I would have liked to see them burn, it must have been quite impressing... but in the end I didn't
But the good thing about burning them is that next year there will be more!

OUTSTANDING! I did a lot of CNC work in the past and these are AMAZING. Beautiful characters and great sculpting. Incredible all around!

    Default Fogueres 2017 Alicante

I've just returned from Alicante, Spain and this years Bonfires of Saint John. I can't believe there are 2 of these sculpture festivals in Spain! The Fallas in Valencia in March and the Fogueres in Alicante in June.
I've just posted up a video on this years sculptures for people to see the volume and fantastic quality of the work. We only got to about 50 of the 86 sites and we were there 4 days!

Please post more of your work for next years festival, I'm guessing you've started already!

Thanks Arthur, I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks John, very nice your video about "Las Hogueras", It's clear how much you enjoyed it. That's right, I'm working at the moment on some more sculpts for next year. But for this past "Hogueras" I made as well a couple of sculpts that you may recognize. Here you are some images of them. The design and the actual sculpture was done by José Gallego. Hope you like them!

    Hi Moiojlo,

Wow you contributed to the winning monument this year, how fantastic! The monument won so many awards.
I understand that the winner from this year gets to put their monument in front of the town hall at next years festival, and that that monument is the first one to burn!!
The chameleon was a great piece of sculpture with the little fly stuck to the end of it's tongue, there is just so much detail in that monument.
I can't wait to see next years work.

Thanks John! Yes, José Gallego did, as always, a terrific work! Full of details and nuances!!
I'm not sure about how the prizes work, but, as far as I know, the association that the monument belongs to, if it wins, recieve some money from the authorities, that they can use for the next year monument. Usually the Townhall monument is given to an artist by public contest, and yes, by tradition, that monument is always the first one to be burnt. Anyway, I'm not an expert on this, I could be wrong.
By the way, John, very nice photographs! I'm very happy to see how much you enjoyed it. Don't miss, if you have the chance, next year Fallas.... and the Bonfires!!
