Hi guys, for this awesome contest I chose Anakin's podracer from episode one. A nice vehicle for Jedi younglings, right?
Here are some references I used:
And here the starting concept:
As for the fabrication of the two engines, I guess the usage of some caster wheels and rigid links between the engines and the cockpit could give stiffness to the structure.
Yeah, I know it could be challenging to fabricate a structure like this, but with a little effort and a bit of good engineering everything is possible.
Obviously the proportions won't be the same as the movie: the engines will be significantly reduced.
Here is a little update of the cockpit:
starting from a previous blockout, I modeled the main mass with the mightly Dynamesh; after that, I retopologized all with zspheres for a more "shape-aware" geometry. Then some little details were added.
Hi guys,
A little update of the engine(s), I added the turbin's support, air scoops and details.
Here is a first version of the engine (very close to original design):
but I modified it into a more compact and pretty one:
I have been worried about the details of pipes/wires. I made ad-hoc geometries in 3ds max to be used as custom IMM brush. Each mesh is a solid volume:
For the model of a single air scoop I started from a cylinder, for the base from a box. I used a lot the ZModeler Brush (I love it) and live booleans for other details.
Putting engine(s) and cockpit together, so we can have a preview of the final composition and proportions:
Thank you guys
Here an update of the cockpit: the fusolage has been reduced a bit, they were added the towing arms and the "control yokes". I used (a lot of) basic shapes and Zmodeler brush, reached more than 70 subtools.
The towing arms are designed to be rigid, while the control arms can be moved.
I tried to maintain a simplified and light design.
