    Default Anakin's Podracer

Hi guys, for this awesome contest I chose Anakin's podracer from episode one. A nice vehicle for Jedi younglings, right?

Here are some references I used:

    And here the starting concept:

As for the fabrication of the two engines, I guess the usage of some caster wheels and rigid links between the engines and the cockpit could give stiffness to the structure.

    Stay tuned.

Really interesting, looking forward to seeing this develop.

This is a super nice star wars vehicle, but I would not want to move this monster through Comic-Con to be honest.

    Thank you guys.

Here is a first blockout of the cockpit:

I started from a primitive box, then I shaped the fuselage with the Move brush; other parts were added as rough primitive shapes.

For the engine(s) I used a different approach

I started from a primitive cylinder, then shaped it with ZModeler brush.
Details were added with Booleans, Array meshes and other primitives.

Trying to maneuver this would be a bit challenging but it would certainly be a crowd pleaser! Very eye catching.

Yeah, I know it could be challenging to fabricate a structure like this, but with a little effort and a bit of good engineering everything is possible.
Obviously the proportions won't be the same as the movie: the engines will be significantly reduced.

Here is a little update of the cockpit:

starting from a previous blockout, I modeled the main mass with the mightly Dynamesh; after that, I retopologized all with zspheres for a more "shape-aware" geometry. Then some little details were added.

    Hi guys,
A little update of the engine(s), I added the turbin's support, air scoops and details.

Here is a first version of the engine (very close to original design):

but I modified it into a more compact and pretty one:

I have been worried about the details of pipes/wires. I made ad-hoc geometries in 3ds max to be used as custom IMM brush. Each mesh is a solid volume:

For the model of a single air scoop I started from a cylinder, for the base from a box. I used a lot the ZModeler Brush (I love it) and live booleans for other details.

Putting engine(s) and cockpit together, so we can have a preview of the final composition and proportions:

    Regards.

    very nice progress here.
it's a big piece to manoeuvre, but will surely look cool.

    keep up the good work.

    Thank you guys
Here an update of the cockpit: the fusolage has been reduced a bit, they were added the towing arms and the "control yokes". I used (a lot of) basic shapes and Zmodeler brush, reached more than 70 subtools.
The towing arms are designed to be rigid, while the control arms can be moved.
I tried to maintain a simplified and light design.

Here a preview of the entire structure:

    Best regards

    Thank you @KurtBoutilier.

    Here a little update.
First, the most important features, the monitor and the cockpit's controls ():

    then the towing cable:

for this, I created an ad-hoc IMM brush to be applied on the top of zspheres structure.

    Then, some antennas:

And last, but not least, the coupling lighting bolt:

    Stay tuned
