Long dead links removed...
Had some time to sift through zbrush.info, played with
the old escape*.obj file from the beginning of the thread
to get my head around the 17 steps required to load a
pre-created mesh as re-topology mesh for an ex-isting
mesh inside ZBrush. Muttered several curses but got it
working finally. Oh, the joys of switching sub-tools elgantly.
Now if I figure how to merge seperate *.ztl pieces into one
mesh while keeping the higher level sub-sculpts intact I´ll
buy myself a beer. But honestly, I´m afraid I won´t have
one for yet some more months...yepp, am a bit frustrated
about the process/implementation (and the lack of ZAppLink, too).
Anyway, here´s a wip. Re-topoed, re-sculpted, some esteem lost:

So,
trying to tidy up a bit, I took myself off for some weeks.
Loads of stuff to do ahead. All those things left unfinished...
May or may not get something done actually, currently fiddle
with the below, finally managed to arse myself into splitting
the mesh into elements (gives you 50 mio polygons each).
Am a bit rusty with the tools, can´t get a straight line drawn
or at least "eyeball" anything anymore and transfer it into 3D.
Abyssis, your cheer up is therefore greatly appreciated, will
try to get back to that level of expression...

Small update, wore out one of the boots, added some
color to the face and imported back and forth between
XSI and ZBrush, carrying along the colors and replacing
elements, like the right arm.
The pose isn´t cutting it yet. Am currently modeling a
canteen, belt and holster to hook on, also changed the
head but haven´t swapped them out, yet.
Guess I´ll first finish those, then see how everything
holds together, shifting wheight to the left leg, adding
something more interesting to the pose and silhouette.

There´s not too many personal news I could share,
been doing alot of TV/commercial work, some moods
and a few long hours but now am just enjoying myself...
Most interesting bit, over at cgtalk is that challenge,
uplift, participation including the submission of a final
image might give access to a permant copy of XSI 6.5 ESS edu.
Winning will result in a commercial license, both these scenarios
might benefit from aiming at the submission of a good image...
Am aiming at the edu license for homeuse, good opportunity
to finally learn to sculpt with ZBrush, going through a design
process without too much of a hurry, taking the time to first
sketch things instead of just getting things out the door.
Been trying the Painter X demo, ended up using $25 Artrage 2.5:
Allready built the backround in ZBrush, will build the girl the next
few days, covering all major obstacles in cloth, concentrating
more on the silhouette and gesture. Might require some more thought...

I had to wait until the cgtalk uplift challenge had ended.
Couldn´t finish my submission in time, got me a freelance
gig in China instead. Got there just in time for the earthquake,
which brought alot of grief and harm but not to Beijing, luckily...
The attached ley_dolphin.zip contains the *.ztl with Polypainting
and the Level1 *.obj file with a 1K texture, flipped for headstart
use in Maya and the likes. Might miss some volume, thought.
The files are free to use for personal artwork, but may need
clearance on an individual basis when used in commercial realms.
The files where created from scratch but I had used IgorBGD´s
dolphin for getting an idea about basic proportions before starting
my own mesh, with quadtopology, teeth and details as needed.
Still, his model gave me a good idea about what I´d need and want.

Managed to use ZSpheres and retopo to create a body
for zee_ley_zee_cow. It´s a bit hipcentric since I wanted
the character to be able to fill a room with it´s presence...

Also made a quick 360° w/ZBrushmaterial as above slapped on:
Save *.zip to desktop and extract to play *.mov

Haven´t done much ZSketching lately, haven´t looked into human anatomy
for months at all in fact. Loads of other stuff but am actually missing the
ZBrush doodles. So here I am, trying to build a habit of sketching more again.
At least for an hour or so a day, maybe?

Hi Tim,
Thankyou so much for great assets.
Very nice of you.
Your sculpting is coming along..Yep a few hours a day or atleast some time on Z makes a huge difference. They have those 3dt challenges for sculpting I think you would rather enjoy it and great way too hone ya skillz with Z..
Again thanks for those wikked files...
Hi Deltathund3r,
glad you find the files useful.
I haven´t gotten much feedback on them sofar, figured
people couldn´t really make use of them probably...
Regarding contests, well, last time I participated in one
I got a shortnotice job, ended up flying in on the job
a couple of days prior to deadline, had to decide about
my priorities then. Money won, easily...gives most freedom.

XSI 7 with ICE is pretty cool. Makes particle effects alot easier
for the artsy types having a less than ideal math backround and
no or limited scripting abilities. It´s nodebased, loads of sample
files and tolerant to trial&error.
I always wanted to do a cereal or meteorite belt shot, so here
we are, spent the morning ZBrushing a cereal flake, may do a
couple more and give particle instancing in XSI a try, just for fun.
Could also be I lose interest in it, thought.
Cheers

The below is one flake, multiple ZBrush screenshots and some Photoshop:

I´ve still a hard time modeling skin and humanoid characters.
Besides proportions way off, I find it very difficult to get the
weight of skin and it´s wrinkles right. The below is a sketch.
May do more on this character but will probably move on
and restart from scratch again, to get more practice.
Cheers
