This is fantastic! Great job and awesome sculpts on your blog! :+1: :+1:
Ryan

That’s really great!
Mind if I ask what techniques you used? Is it just applying alphas with stencils?
Anyway - it’s a really great study. Good job!

I tried making an environment with sculpting (i set the whole program up myself)
but i couldnt get it to work. but youve definitely got it to work here so I guess
im thinking of attempting the “sculpted world” again.

Its probably heaps of work isnt it, but what youd get at the end possibly could
be worth the effort.

(i didnt have a flatten brush tho…)

But ive actually worked out a new technique where i can complete mix my
course work with my sculpting. and I think its possible now, but now im
thinking more about just a course map with the complex geometry just put
in with uv the normal way - now displacement mapping is fully out realtime.

So, I cant decide.

Just completely drivelling personal crap in a page where noone will even
listen nor care.

But great work for prooving you can sculpt the whole thing micropoly if
you want.

hi all, thank you for your comments.

I plan on putting together a little walkthrough of my process, which ill try and post up tomorrow.

heres another test shot.

This is brilliant stuff…such an inspired use of z brush…not a naked lady or cloven hoofed creature in sight.

Cant wait to see your walkthrough.

Thats cool! I would also like to see your tutorial. Looking forward to it.

That looks great. Nice Detail for the rocks.

Wow… Love it. Really looking forward to your technique flow. This is why I think Zbrush is tearing up the world of 3d. I tell my students all the time, Digital Sculpting is going to propel 3D forward into a new level of finish.

Every now and then something pushes the medium to a new height. Great to see this kind of non creature but totally organic sculpting.

I never thought I would be in awe by looking at rocks, but man this is great stuff.

Keep on rockin! pun intended

You’ve given me plenty of ideas with this sculpture! I’m currently using Vue and Terragen 2 for the over all landscapes, but having a sculptured set is a wonderful idea. In this fashion you could get the very best of both worlds of 3D, and environment and a set for characters. I think this method might be the next direction for those physically modeling sets as they have since the film industry started. So…, I’m really curious about your methods and approach to your set modeling. I’m looking forward to your future posts! Someone else did a set with crumbling stone walls and structures a while back I’ll have to see if I can find those posts as well.
Great Job!

great effect on the rockface

can’t wait for the tutorial…

very cool mate, thanks for the quick walktrough

Perfect!.. I really wish I had more ram for this kind of thing.

Edit: Just tried the technique out and it works great!.. I’d just love to have a computer powerful enough to build a level this for say Custom Edition Halo this way.

A huge thank you for the tutorial!
It’s really useful. And thanks for the inspiration!

Great work!

Wow, very good technique… thank you for sharing! :+1: :+1:

Such a great tut! Thanks for sharing this! :+1: :+1:
