Default ZBrush 3.1 Brainstorming for Art and Illustration Art Log

ZBrush 3.1 Brainstorming for Art and Illustration Art Log

Zbrush looks to be used by a lot of people in the 3d animation, film, film special effects and the Gaming Indurstry (which all need to use another 3d program for one reason or another) and by Illustrators and Artists. Which is cool. Now, having said that, a few things that imo is that it looks to me more and more tutorials, weather they be videoes or text and graphics, gear one up for creating in Zbrush what they can use in another 3d program (which is cool). So, for example, when I wanted to use HD Geometry to create fine detail onto models I was told why do that you can't export it out of Zbrush to be used with (whatever) 3d program. Basicly I was told it was a waste of time to detail my models in HD Geometry. Well this puzzled me as I do have another 3d program and I wasn't wanting to export the model out of Zbrush. I just wanted to created a very high detailed model to be painted and textured in Zbrush and then print it out as say a poster. So to me using HD Geometry made sense to me. Another thing that seems to have very little tutorials is box modeling with Zbrush. Ok again I understand if you have another 3d program such as Maya, 3D Max or others just do it with them to create your base mesh. Hey that's cool too. But IMO I think there some Artist (classical fine arts) and Illustratures (classical illustration) who do not have the other 3d software and would like to create some box modeling with Zbrush. For what ever reason.

With this in mind, using Zbrush 3.1 for Art and Illustration Art for printing or other non film, animation, gameing use, I will post whatever I can find that does what might be needed by a Classical Fine Artist and a Classical Illustrator. To start Zbrush has some plugins that are usefull one is the ZSketchpad plugin which can be downloade at Pixologic's download page here http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/ look for zsketch pad . Which can be used for drawing and drawing in colors. And for HD Geometry the plugin SubTools Master as aruick was kind enough to point out to me in another post link here http://209.132.96.165/zbc/showthread...4&page=1&pp=15
that saving your HD Gemoetry model with this tool allows you load the tool back into Zrush with the HD Geometry work that was done to the model. There is an excelent movie tutorial at pixologic's web site called Architectural Technique by Sebastien Legrain and the link is here http://www.pixologic.com/zclassroom/artistspotlight/as the person being spotlighted changes from time to time check at the bottom of the page and look for the icon of a building and click on it to take you to the movie tutorials (thanks to spaceboy412 for showing where the icon is located) if you try to download with quicktime player it want let you it will let you know quictime pro will let you do that. So how to download the movie tutorials from the site. Thanks again to spaceboy412 for the how to on this - use firefox 3 as your browser and add the Video DownloadHelper plugin and then download the movie tutorials. Even though it is not a true box modeling movie tutorial it does some and what it does with Projection Master for detailing is very cool imo. Though not a movie tutorial there is a box modeling text and graphics tutorial here at ZBC done by aurick and here is the link to it http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/sho...13&postcount=1 and an update for zbrush 3 users here http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/sho...4&postcount=54 it would be nice to have a movie tutorial of aurick's tutorial. Jason (cannedmushrooms) has a few maybe more as he has about two hundred movie tutorials on Zbrush. Two are here http://209.132.96.165/zbc/showpost.p...3&postcount=36 0601 uniformed meshes (zbrush) and 0602 non organic sculpting (zbrush) and another one here
http://www.veoh.com/videos/v657132134NnrRsZ?rank=0&jsonParams={%22numResults%22%3A20%2C%22rlmin%22%3A 0%2C%22query%22%3A%22box+modeling+zbrush%22%2C%22r lmax%22%3Anull%2C%22veohOnly%22%3Atrue%2C%22order% 22%3A%22default%22%2C%22range%22%3A%22a%22%2C%22sI d%22%3A%225127765249031643136%22}&searchId=5127765249031643136&rank=1
this one is at the veho site movie.

To sum up so far on some things to use or view
    zsketch pad
    SubTools Matser
Architectural Technique by Sebastien Legrain movie tutorials
aurick's text and graphics box modeling tutorial
    Jason's (cannedmushrooms) three movie tutorials

I hope when you have read the post you can give some thought to using Zbrush 3.1 for Classical Fine Art and Illustration Art and post your how to's and tips here.

Hope this post has help someone.

The image by Da Vinci reminded of creating inspiration and is why I posted it to this post.

    TREE

    tree3a.jpg

As you can see not finished

Using HD Geometry making the deatils on the tree. I have 1.5gigs of ram so I could not geometry divide over 2 on this model. With HD Geometry I can HD Divide and get the model with enough polys to do the detailing.
NOTE: Do not forget that work done in HD Geometry is not usable in other programs (at this time) so save a copy of the tool at a non-HD Geometry level first for a backup. And when saving the HD Geometry model use the SubTools Master plugin Save Tool button.

    Some details of the tree

When working on the tree when I went into projection master I decided to use double sided and fade on and/or off I begain to get seams where the front and backsides meet. I do not get this when using single sided. Anyone now how to correct this or this might not be a way to detail the tree - PM double sided. Save your tools regularly so you have one ot go back to and not start over. So it looks like the high level of detail should be done in PM with all unchecked excet deformation

Perhaps realizing that adults might frown on the idea of multiply connected spaces, he wrote the book under a pseudonym and wrote it for children. Working on the model of the tree where I did a PM with double sided on to see if it can be work out by detailing over the areas. Looks like as you can see in the right side of the image a tree branch would be very hard to work over I think so but to an earlier version to the ztool and start over again.

ZBrushs Alpha Palette Explained (for free)
You have to join Gnomonology which is free and the tutorial is very good big screen tut but the file size is over 100megs.

    Thanks ahtiandr for viewing

Back to the tree - using the tree in HD Geometry went to a on the keyboard get the circle and used scale and move - from there you can paint onto the HD model the same steps as on any other model.

Here's one I did for the pure artistic joy of it using zbrush for art and illustration.
Being a newbie, i was just trying out tools to see what happened, but the more I tried the more i felt a sense of unbridled freedom to let the subconscious pour out; if Max Ernst or Yves Tanguy or Kandinsky had been alive today, they'd have been zbrushers - NO DOUBT ABOUT IT -

Part Vogon poetry subject matter, part crust growing on the inside of an old shoe, all surrealist joy:
    Autonomatopoeia II
    {ATT=151640}Autonomatopoeia2b.jpg{/ATT}

Fast and bulbous, you know you want to... although to look at it, may be you don't
