I think the black outline is only visible on the top of her head.
Maybe thats only at this resolution tho.
Would love to see a turnaround with hair sometime

any chance you could post a short tutorial on how you did your hair? So far the only tutorials I have been able to find are for game-quality alpha planes.

Nice work Tomala. For the hair: do you already tried to save your hair as PNG instead of an other format? with PNG you don't have to cut the hair out with alpha mask, because it's already on an transparent background.
    Good luck and keep going.

I don't know, but maybe your hair layer have a premultipled alpha.
Did you try layer > matting > remove black matte (in photoshop)?

    Getting really nice....
I think you should add more shadows on the eyes, and increase the spec (maybe use a dot envmap).
Also I think the mouth area and nose look a bit too large, making it thinner would be more feminine maybe?

    Great work
Her face reminds me a little bit of Anna Torv from FRINGE.

Hi Tomasz. I've been following this thread and the one you have on cgtalk, and I have a question for you. You have said that you're rendering the hair separately and compositing it. How are you getting the cast shadows from the hair onto the face in your hair-only render? I have tried applying a Matte/Shadow/Reflect (mi) to the head so that the render only gives me hair and cast shadows, but that crashes Max every single time. Someone else confirmed this bug in the comments of Zap's hair post. I'm using Max 2009.

Or perhaps you're leaving the cast shadows in the beauty pass, and just adding the hair (without shadows) as a second layer?

I assume that when you're rendering the hair by itself, you're still rendering with Mental Ray, not the scanline.
