Ravishankar - sketchbook

This is my second attempt at a sketchbook…
I had been very lazy on the last one and updates were happening rarely.
I plan to sketch regularly from now on…
Working on an old creature …
The creature on the left side is what i had accomplished about a month (or 2…i dont remember he he) back…
Did some sculpting today…and the one on the right is where i have reached …
comments and critics are welcome…
thanks for viewing…

Great musclature, Ravi… nice sculpt:)

RawSunlight : Thanks man…

Was working today on a shield for the character to defend himself …
used some viking symbols for the shield design
hope it looks good
[]shield.jpg

trying to get him into a dynamic pose…
still not satisfied with the arms …
[ZBrush Document.jpg]

Arms are fine. Maybe give him some head turn and tilt. Then add some tension in his hands…i.e. the fingers.

The shield is gorgeous

The arms look like the biceps are too far inward, maybe and a little shortened?
But that said, fantasy creatures get to have anatomy all of their own, surely

Great work!

I think the overall shape of the character could be improved, but as is I think you should really focus on his expression. It doesn’t match with the pose. Try to work on his eyes, forehead etc. to really make him look ferocious.

The shield looks great, nice material!

Pretty cool ! the overall shape are nice but I think you can improve the aspect of your creature by playing whit the white space (i’m not sure this is correct in English but in French we call it : espace negatif)

Sleet : will definitely work on the fingers man…

RawSunlight : Thanks man… you are definitely right about how curious the anatomy of a fantasy creature can be…
but the difficult part is to make the viewer believe it will work in some way or other… i wish i could do that.

tobbeo : i agree with you…i have to work on the face…
Even my wife agrees to what you said… she says that the creature is not ferocious enough…
the material for the shield is the cmt_deep_bronze material downloaded from the pixologic site (with a bit of tweaking…)

Warcha : I will try to pose him in a better way…
i got your point on using the negative space to improve the look of the character. But i am still very naive when it comes to stuff like that.
Will learn it so that i will be able to implement it in my work…

Today i was working on a weapon for our creature…
Well this is what i accomplished …
[ZBrush Document.jpg]

update…
took the model into maya, rigged it and skinning under progress…
this is what he looks like now…
[pose_test.jpg]

have some very bad deformations in the head region…
thats why i havent tried to move that particular region…
Hats off to those rigging artists out there :+1:.
You guys have a really tough job skinning all kinds of models.
it is so much tough for me to get the right deformations i need…
and by the way the green shader is temporary …

thanks for viewing…

found some time today for zbrushing…
another 1 hr sculpt …
am actually wondering whether i am a bit slow with my sculpting
i hope to do more of these 1 hr sculpts so that i can improve my speed
and to get better results
i hope the result is not very bad for a 1 hr sculpt…
c & c are welcome…
and thanks for viewing…

This is where i got to rendering my creature…
Placed him on a set. Lighting and rendering in Maya, Mentalray…
The set was a part of an old project…
Since the skinning of the character is not final i didnt want to pose him …
will do that for the final shot…
So we can call this a semi-final shot …
Any suggestion to make this image more interesting are welcome… [wolf@gate.jpg]wolf@gate_closeup.jpg

Lovely Renders

I especially like the new more muscular sculpt here. I’m curious if you used any reference for the anatomy?

B187 : Thanks man…
Paint Guy : With many muscular superheroes from ZBC finding their way into my inspiration folder… yes there were a lot of references
And thanks for looking guys…

One of my friends suggested brightening up the image …
so i just made some changes…
brightened the image, gave it a different tint…
removed the glowing particles and added some fog…
Hope it looks good…
