armstrongnt, all the lip stuff was sculpted with a standard brush and a little patience.
I did use those alphas on the Na'vi , but I used them all together and blended them it takes some practice.
One thing that I always do is use alpha 7 in the Zbrush alphas and turn the z intensity down, and the size small then I use the standard brush with spray turned on as the stroke. I just quickly "paint" the entire surface this will create a nice skin texture that you can the blend other alphas with later.

Watched the movie on Sunday and wowwow amazing movie.

imo James Cameron made a perfect translation of the (colourful) undersea life
to the life/natur/environment of Pandora. Guess he was lost in the beauty below the surface when making Titanic . <img src="http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif">

Patton, awesome dvd, hope you got rid of your cold - snif.

Did they use your actual models or was it more of a concept?

I'm not sure if it's easier to start with a base mesh with the right topology or just go with the more freeform zspheres and start sculpting right away. I can tell you which is more fun though.

    Default Whoa!

Greetings from the second dimension! With great difficulties we have been able to watch this movie, and we are completely blown out!

Our scientists are now working around the clock to find out the implications of this event. The government is mainly interested in how to expand our society into an additional dimension, and how to regulate the access to it. But the rest of the population is picking apart every detail of it, not bothering with gov stuff.

This will certainly make a breakthrough in many areas, we believe that it will raise the bar when it comes to perfectionism in moviemaking. It will also broaden the acceptance for sci-fi in movies as well as in literature and art. Of course the technical revolution will also have a burst, we hope it also will benefit us living here in the plane:-)

All in all, besides currently being the ultimate escape drug, Avatar is probably the best thing that happened the last decennium.

To be fair it must be mentioned that one character (who is now in jail) said "That was a fat demo reel, with a little story attached".

    Best regards /kaitomas

KillahPriest: These were all concept design models, and were sent to Weta and used in various ways.
when I'm doing designs in 3D I don't always know what the proper topology will be at the start .
BTW ,I'm not a big fan of zspheres

    Hi Guys.
I have seen for the first time such cinema. It was more tremendous!
I have madly fallen in love with a film avatar. A film plot - very interesting, and as well as everywhere the love has won harm!

Patton! You modeled and sculpted the Banshee, right? Here I have a question on its mouth. When Banshee closes the mouth, the muscles etc. can act correspondingly and properly. How did you model the Banshee's mouth,at first, the mouth closed or open?Whether modeled mouth-open,then made it proper by animation adjusting?Wish you can show us that workflow?

I wonder I can show my question clearly, can you understand ?

    Thanks anyway,Patton!
I'm sure that Patton is too busy to notice my question because there are so many replies. But I wanna know the answers eagerly.
    Thank you again.

siyukalebtao: OK,OK! I sculpted it closed first, then I rigged it to open all the way, ( yes it stretched, a lot!) after that I pick select poses ( the ones I posted) and finished the detail sculpts of each one of those poses. I'm not an animator, Im a designer, so it only exists in a low-res rigged model.

Thanks so much,Patton! I got it!
The reason I am eager to know is that I'm working on a creatrue these days, and I am not sure how the workflow should be act.
What I'm worry is whether the model created open-mouth can be used in the animation workflow?
Thank you again!Wish much more masterpieces!
