E.D.A.H - Every Day An Hour (Jack and Kevin)

ZBCThumb1.jpg

E.D.A.H, which stands for Every Day An Hour, was a private group I created last year on facebook. We made it more public on CGSociety. Now kindly invited by Jaime Labelle, we bring this group to Zbrush central (which we should’ve at first place).

The idea behind E.D.A.H is simple: everyday we spend an hour(at least) practice in zbrush. The reason I created this group is because I constantly hear from friends and colleagues saying that they have no time to practice. I want to prove to everyone that you can get great improvement as long as you spent an hour a day and keep going.

Here are some simple rules/guidelines for E.D.A.H:

[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]· All ZBC Members are welcome to participate in this challenge.

·The concept is to spend approximately an hour (up to a maximum of two hours) at a time advancing your project.

· Your project can be any format: a 3D sculpt or a 2D drawing. (Don’t forget about PaintStop!) – link will be included
[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]· You can stop one project and start a new one at any time.
[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]· When showing your progress, please always include two images: The first shows where you began for that session, and the second shows where you finished.
[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]· Single speed sessions are also allowed. In this case there is no need to show before and after images.
[font=Symbol]
[font=Symbol]· In both cases, please also specify how long you worked to get to the point shown.

ABOVE ALL, HAVE FUN!!!

p. s. Kevin and I are the most active contributors to E.D.A.H@CGTalk. He was my student and now character artist at Pop6 studio and I am at Electronic Arts Montreal.

so a hour on a new model? or existing one? how do you choose the subject matter?

Doesn’t have to be an hour can be longer if you have time. An hour is more like for ppl saying “I don’t have time”

We set up individual monthly focus. For instanct, my monthly focus for Jan 2009 is male bust. So I do nothing but male bust. What to choose as the subject and how to choose is entirely upto you, but try to keep the same subject for a month. Kevin and I find keep practicing on the same subject on a monthly basis can bring noticable improvement.

Those are great questions. Thanks for asking. Hope my answers please you.

cool to see ya here guys :slight_smile:

yeah~ Magdalena

That’s an interesting idea, I hope I can develop the discipline to get to do something like this. Are those Frank Zappa and Andre the Giant, btw?:smiley:

they are Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya and Andre the giant as Fezzik from The princess bride. You are definitely right on Andre indeed.

Awesome stuff, I’ve actually just started trying to do this myself. Been doing lots of 45 minute from scratch (well, from a lo poly sphere) sculpts. It’s great practice. I’ll check out your cgtalk page too.

well feel free to join~

Think I will, are you guys trying to keep the central posts on cgtalk or are you posting both across sites? Not sure which one I want to post to.

Currently we have E.D.A.H@CGTalk, E.D.A.H@CGChannel, and E.D.A.H@ZBC. CGTalk and ZBC are our main focus. you can join us based on your preference.

Great initiative guys! I couldn’t agree more, an hour a day will ensure steady progress - members who try this one out will be suprised with the results they get :+1: .

I bet they will. It works for me already.

this is what I can do before Sep 2009 (pretty much didn’t know what to do with zb)

Yup, looks great… only a four measly months of experience, wait, at one hour a day, that totals up at 90+ hours… no fair :smiley: :+1: !

Great idea, Jack and Kevin! All the models are wonderful. I`m looking forward to seeing the next updates.

Very good. I love your models. You have the gift of modeling, buddy.:+1: :+1: :+1:
