not to complain but why is there so many users on the forums who can't afford z brush? surely that's akin to the homeless congregating around the gates of a yacht club? ie if you can't purchase the product why would you sign up to the forum?
first of all were not homeless we have a home its called the sculptris forum, secondly just because we cant afford zbrush dosnt mean we are lesser people, i can almost guarantee at least 10% of zbrushers dont have a legitimately purchased copy of zbrush, so because were honest and wont pirate zbrush were lesser people?. Also you say if we cant purchase the product why register here, let me see, you (pixologic) now own sculptris, were sculptris users so its only natural to want to see what happens to "our" (DrPetter's) wonderfully simple and easy to use "free" program.
So please get off your high horse and stop disrespecting people who maybe are not as fortunate as yourself, do you see us sculptris users disrespecting zbrushers, no you dont so please dont do it to us.

i'm not sure if i like that idea personally. however if pixologic want to work their way down the autodesk route i'd like to see softimage liberated from autodesk's cold clammy grasp.at least with pixologic the updates only come out when there is a legitimate update. thousands of dollars a year for nothing more than patches is appaling.

Default right to exist for both apps

i hope pixologic doesn't simply integrate sculptris into zbrush. i think the suggestion of curtmantle is a very good one:

This paragraph suggests that Sculptris will be developed further by Pixologic as a separate application. Maybe it will be like Photoshop Elements, or Painter Essentials: a cheaper, more accessible product for hobbyists?

the 2 big reasons for the success of sculptris in my opinion are

-the simplicity of using it (view very effective brushes, easy-to-use-interface)
-the low price (sure it' will cost something in the future but hopefully you'll keep it low-priced)

zbrush is a very impressive software, but with the many features it's got it has become kind of overloaded for beginners and guys who want to make a quick sculpt and texture it (nothing more nothing less).
scultpris i think is the right choice for those kind of people (not only for hobbyists).

so both apps have got their right to exist

    Default Awesome!

Well I just wanted to yell my enthousiasm too!
Really great piece of software! Congrats!
With the zbrush hotkeys and a zbrush-like navigation it would be perfect!

    This is unusable for me.
It lags at like 5 fps for a while whenever I use any tool at all, even with detail set to 0.

It only gets worse if I use the tablet, there's no sculpting at all, just lag.
I can't even rotate the camera.

I'm on windows XP, have 6 gigs of RAM and a geforce GTX 275 with the latest drivers installed.

    What's up with that?

I'd definitely like to see some of the innovations from Sculptris find their way into ZBrush - adaptive tessellation being the most obvious. There is no point in acquiring this sort of technology, and the skills of a programmer like Tomas, unless it's to contribute to the main development effort.

I have nearly the same system as you. But Windows 7. I have no problems using Sculptris. Are you using the default sphere?

Yeah. What he said was pretty harsh. I don't have nor want Zbrush in it's current state. I think it's interface is a hassle to navigate and during the demo I went through the trouble a couple of times to optimize the interface, but during those steps it generally crashed. I like Sculptris because it's simple and allows me to quickly sculpt something up.....what I wanted out of Zbrush.

I think this is a great opportunity for ZBrush to grow up in better, as well.
If Sculptris demonstrates one thing is that for organics you can go from concept to quite detailed mesh with no great problem and with a simple UI.

Sculptris way is IMO even better that Zspheres method (a tool i won't dismiss for sure, but that forces the user to setup a base first, then sculpt) So i would simply add the sculptris way too, and users can decide what method to use, or also, i would find ways in which every advantage of said tool can be exploited by the user.

I also think That Thomas could do wonders in this realm. He's surely a brilliant programmer he'll find even new ideas/tools to implement.

Another condsideration i can make is i see way many people complaining of ZBrush UI and workflows. I know it has its logics, and have no great probs using it but i think an effort could be made to streamline things in a way the app becomes more intuitive even at the first experiences.
It does so many cool things, and making workflows become simpler will bring more joy for the artists !

I had the same problem...go to the config in the sculptris folder and change the mt_maxthreads to 1 and save

Odd that it only causes issues on certain machines.
