I think i would share this. Its just a zsphere rig with a very basic mesh but i think it s fun to play with poses and as first step to create characters...

yes I found that deleting the connection zsphere change the way the rig behaves.. this is very usefull for the neck-head are for example.. if you try to pose a character with zpheres and move the neck or head you will probably get weird results but if you leave the neck unconnected it works pretty well.. it takes some time to get used but one you get used its pretty easy .
Another nice thing with zspheres is you can store poses or deformations in layers and reuse them and mix them so you can very quick get the overall shape of your character..etc

Thanks for the tip about mixing the pose layers. I for some reason always had issues getting this to work. I also almost always remesh my characters while working many times and therefore I'd lose the bindpose anyway. I will give this another try though. Maybe your video will work at my work place.
