Go In Depth with...ZRemesher 3.0 - DetectEdges
Let's familiarize ourselves a little better with ZRemesher's DetectEdges functionality. In this Lesson example, we'll take a gear model that has a triangulated mesh with no PolyGroups or no mesh ID, but has edges to help utilize the DetectEdges function. Once DetectEdges is activated, we can convert our mesh to quad based geometry, create PolyGroups, and most importantly retain our clean or hard edges. This function can assist with future mesh editing including Dividing and sculpting or features that utilize PolyGroups.

I'm following Stefano Dubay's gesture tutorial linked in the blog. Of course I can't start with something simple so I'm creating this extreme dancer pose. I'm just starting out but I wanted to throw this up and get feedback on the proportions before I continued. The image on the left will be the final angle. Thanks for any feedback.

Wyatt's Sketchbook v2
Figured I'd start a fresh thread for 4r2. So far I am loving this update. One thing about me when it comes to 3D, I am slow. Slow to the point that it's not uncommon for me to get aggravated or bored with a project and abandon it before I'm able to complete it or I'll hit some pipeline roadblock that ends with the same result. I think Dynamesh was made with me in mind. I was able to sculpt and sculpt and not think about the tech side while doing so. I made plenty of little mistakes while working but fixing it was simple. Adding new geometry, no problem. This is very liberating. One thing I need to remember is to not detail until I've got the basic shape down. I must have redone the eyes and cheeks 4 times becuase Dynamesh kept smoothing it out. Anyway, here is the first thing I've made that I took to a point of being somewhat done. Started with the Dynamesh_128 ball and stayed at 128. No image_plane_X this time, just eyeballed it. Here is the result after an hour and 6 "Insert Cylinders". This for me is very fast. And after another hour. And then some minor tweaks. This was an experiment with LightCap. Great feature btw. Loaded an HDRI image, clicked the LightCap button and boom, done. To everyone at Pixologic, thank you so very much for this great update.

First foray into zsketching. It's like sketching and a little not like sketching lol. This will take some practice. 20090912.4.jpg Following the video and making sure the armature was bound here is a quick pose. With softbind set to 0 the tentacles pretty much broke apart into individual spheres. Set to 100 the tentacles stay as one unit but they lag behind the armature and stretch out. So, if you want to pose it looks like you need to add armature for it. Still pretty pretty cool I must say. 20090912.5.jpg Later

Experimenting with surface noise. The default settings when you click the 'noise' button are a bit harsh so I lowered the scale and strength and inverted the curve. I like this result so far, subtle seems to be working for human skin. Now the masking is a thing of beauty. When you sketch the mask you can watch the noise melt away and the falloff blends the noise greatly. First image shows the noise removed from the lips. 20090912.2.jpg This image shows the mask activated and I discovered another shortcut I haven't used before. Ctrl+H = Show/Hide Mask. I'm thinking keeping masks long term might be very useful, we shall see. 20090912.3.jpg

HMC - Predator WIP
Hi there, I am competing in CGTalk's HMC Stan Winston challenge. The link to the WIP is here. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=208&t=662370 The problem is that I'm at 2.8 million polygons and I'm trying to add wrinkles to the forehead and eyebrows to start with. When I try to sculpt something small like that I'm getting really bad aliasing on the stroke. I would think that 2.8M would be enough for this so is there some better technique to accomplish the effect or do I just need more polys, in other words HD. pred.17.jpg Compare to the reference.

Hello, Looking good so far! I looked into your issue. Looks like your base mesh is the issue. You didn't distribute your polygons well enough so now when you are sub-diving your mesh, the forehead is not getting enough details. I would go back...
