Let's familiarize ourselves a little better with ZRemesher's DetectEdges functionality. In this Lesson example, we'll take a gear model that has a triangulated mesh with no PolyGroups or no mesh ID, but has edges to help utilize the DetectEdges function. Once DetectEdges is activated, we can convert our mesh to quad based geometry, create PolyGroups, and most importantly retain our clean or hard edges. This function can assist with future mesh editing including Dividing and sculpting or features that utilize PolyGroups.

Within You Without You
Equally - as above so below. Supposedly on a break from working :-) I found myself niggled by musings of how to connect and translate the means of achieving the more painterly feeling of my 2.5D work within that of 3D and Keyshot. A direction of travel I hope to pick up more in future posts. Yours, ever the ZBrush recidivist, Sabbatical Boozy xxx

Doodles Automatic
I set myself a little challenge to sketch one 2.5D piece a night for two nights in the spirit of having no idea what I might do before I began nor what I was doing whilst I was doing it :-) - what a surrealist might refer to as technical hysteria (the surrealists loved hysteria) but what us ordinary folk might call being in the moment. Sir Thom Of Yorke
In the spirit of ZBrush experimenting. A quick test using textured sculptris pro single sided meshes. Method used:Using subtool image planes to transfer textures to uv’ed sculptris pro meshes using Transform>3d copy. Draw out both the uv’ed subtool mesh you wish to transfer a texture too + a background (in Zdepth) image textured plane subtool >record the subtool positions with a Marker but drop only the image plane subtool to the canvas. Redraw the mesh you wish to transfer the texture too (using the recorded marker) then in Edit Mode use Transform > 3d copy (with rgb switched on) to transfer the texture of image plane previously dropped to canvas. With subtool transparency setting switched on the edges of the mesh planes above the image planes can be erased to the outline required by smoothing with sculptris pro according to the textured subtool behind. NB: After erasing edges by smoothing with sculptris pro you will need to reapply uv's to the mesh before transferring textures as described. These image planes can be further sculpted and deformed to catch the light as required to add depth etc. Yours etc, Boozy

Dear Mr Wordsmith and Dear Mr Erik, this time kind Sirs… I sketched out my thank you in ZBrush. Boozy Junior (peering over my shoulder) thought it like an angel working as security at a nightclub called ’Thank You’. What better place to dance with friends in gratitude said I. Similar techniques as the previous piece except this time the sculptris pro meshes were first uv’ed then textures were applied using uv repeats- these were then applied back as polypaint then further polypainted over. The image textures used to uv the meshes were created using the same sculptris technique - these meshes then painted in 2.5D mode such that they could be tiled. Yours etc, Boozy

As ye inflate so shall ye grow
I’ve fiddled with Sculptris Pro mode for 3 evenings and only tonight realised that the inflate brush in Sculptris Pro mode will actually grow continually according to the surface normals with repeating circular strokes. I recorded it in a picture to remind me. Also testing out switching between secondary and primary colours when painting in sculptress pro mode by holding the alt key. Erick, when you get back to Zbrushing you’re gonna love it I’m sure. Becoming fluid with the new features always takes some time it’s true. Thanks folks :-) Attached some quick notes on the SnakeHook Cactus Brush as well as a Move Elastic Brush adjusted for working with low Rez quad meshes from ZRemesher (not for Sculptris Pro triangular meshes) . Whilst this brush is good for shape design adjustments it’s particularly good for adjusting mouth shapes with good loops e.g if you have created a suggested mouth bag to drive the zremesher process with regard achieving circular loops around the mouth. From a side profile it will help you grab the nasal septum and the philtrum to help with the correct curvature and projection of the top lip. From the front it will help with smile/frown shapes as well as pinching the mouth closed. For more fulsome lips the mouth can be further closed or enhanced by dabbing the inflate brush with a low focal shift -64 from a front view. SnakeHook Cactus Notes The Polypaint color blending I thought was cool :-) As a by the way..... Whilst always fond of the Spherical Brush I found that it's highly versatile when used in Sculptris Pro Mode - give it a whirl and see what you think?!!. Yours etc, Boozy.

Inside A sphere
Being that is is the season for spheres, my Sculptris Pro first test . ZBrush 2018 and Keyshot. Below are my initial notes that I jotted down from my first play with Sculptris Pro mode, perhaps they may be useful to some. Avoid the the temptation to get stuck in Sculptris Pro mode - to get drawn in to detailing makes global adjustments harder as the work progresses. As great as Sculptris Pro mode is remember subdivisions and why they are useful for bigger design changes. Use the traditional brushes to their strengths in combination with Sculptris Pro Think about sculptris for fast volume creation and things it does that exceeds the traditional brushes in performance, behaviour and creative freedom- noses being one. Convert medium detail Sculptris Pro sculpts to Zremeshed meshes to avoid surface chatter - add Sculptris Pro details only when design adjustments are finalized. If you use Sculptris Pro for volume builds and medium detail sculpts you don’t need to get hung up about switching out of Adaptive mode if you intend to convert to ZRemesh . When you’re ready to add final tighter details with Sculptris Pro , Adaptive mode again is fine. Finessing polygon distribution by switching out of Adaptive mode to manual settings is largely a wasted discipline if you intend to convert your medium detail sculpts to Zremesh. Yours etc, Boozy

Ah the Spring, when birds do sing, hey ding a ding a ding. More Shadowbox play except that this time I decided to make a custom menu that effectively makes a kind of separate working environment solely for shadowbox work.
