Let's familiarize ourselves a little better with ZRemesher's DetectEdges functionality. In this Lesson example, we'll take a gear model that has a triangulated mesh with no PolyGroups or no mesh ID, but has edges to help utilize the DetectEdges function. Once DetectEdges is activated, we can convert our mesh to quad based geometry, create PolyGroups, and most importantly retain our clean or hard edges. This function can assist with future mesh editing including Dividing and sculpting or features that utilize PolyGroups.

Sadly on this particular trip it was all business and factories. That said, I did fit in the "China Import, Export Fair". Which was excellent. Made many contacts. Fortunately I've visited China several years earlier for pleasure. Spent about 3 months out there. Really enjoyed it. Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong "not China I know". I also ran the Great Wall of China Half Marathon.

Did you get the chance to have some fun while out in China? When not at the factories, did you visit some interesting places?

Creating an epic running medal for NEVER QUIT
Heyfolks. I wanted to share a project I did last year. I created this epic running Medal for the NEVER QUIT running organisation lead by Erik Petroni Sculpted mostly in ZBrush, with some Maya. Above, that's me. Happy as can be after officially winning my own medals. I ran what is a U.S event, in Malta where I live. This crazy human being is Erik. He created NEVER QUIT. In this photo he can be seen with a few tons of aluminium ingots ready for schmetling. Erik was seeking a digital sculptor. When he read my bio that I loved running. He told himself, it has to be this guy. He flew to Malta and together we created this 7 interlocking piece medallion for a race that took place April 2018. Soon after we flew out to China to oversee its production. Wow, it was not the smoothest experience. We encountered many problems to be solved. We had fun at the factories. All extremely talented engineers. Only we encountered a few communications issues due to language differences. As well as multiple mistakes. Sometimes they would prototype too large Oooops. Other Times, they would prototype too small, lol. Eventually though we had our files ready for CNC milling. Here is the very first casting. Not long after, things got exciting. After a lot of trial and error. Between the factories, Erik and myself. We got it done. The race successfully took place several months later. About 10'000 medals were cast. Weighing in at 8 Tons im told. Photos in the next roll. Freakfinity.com Freakfinity Facebook Page Instagram Artstation

Villainous 3D Printed Busts
Hi there. Here are some of my latest works. I sculpted, 3d printed and assembled three busts of iconic characters I love. Once 3d printed I gave them a lick of bronze paint for an effective classical bronzed bust look. They now sit up on my bookshelf. Please enjoy the video breakdowns attached below each bust. I've been working in video games for some 13 years and would very much like to transition into the area of Toys and Collectibles. I've been busy 3d printing a range of sculptures over the last year. So I've learnt a few things about product design. Also mold making and casting in a range of materials from resin, wax, cement and soon metals. So, if anyone out there is reading this. I'm available for freelance sculpting work. Reach out to me. Or if you like...refer me to anyone you think I might be able to offer my skill set to. Many thanks www.jonathanshaller.com Printing groups. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////// www.jonathanshaller.com

Some old work from 2012 I wanted to re-upload. A series of portraits I did to get to grips with ZBrush. In retrospect I cant believe I did these with a mouse. E-Nable Prosthetics Part 4: Levi
This is Levi. Fan of the Seattle Seahawks. This E-Nable project was an easy enough task. Looking back at the previous palms, I remodelled and hid the exposed wire paths that ran across the top of the hand. They are now tunnels running through the hand. This allowed for more decorative realestate like never before. Decorations, logo's etc were modelled in Maya. As ever, unachievable to my mind without Dynamesh and decimation master. More to come, and getting more advanced as each project comes in. Talks of Lego compatible and Captain America inspired prosthesis have been requested, and are being mocked up. E-Nable Prosthetics Part 3: Loreen
Hi guys. Many thanks for all the kind messages that many have left. Very good of you all. This is Loreen. Like Aria and so many children. Frozen is a very popular choice of decoration. This time I had to find a way of placing two of the characters Anna & Olaf onto the gauntlet. I sculpted Olaf the snowman myself, but for Anna I got a head start by acquiring some Frozen character geometry from Turbo Squid. I cleaned up the geometry to make it print acceptable. Plenty of wafer thin hair and cloth geometry had to be thickened and made solid. Followed by squishing the character into a thin relief that wouldn't stick out too far from the surface of the gauntlet. Finished by the adding the text "Queen Loreen", snowflakes and dynameshing everything down. Then a quick polish by sculpting some of the overall details again. Today I'm also working on another Frozen Themed Prosthesis, and it looking to be the best one yet. A video breakdown exists and will eventually be posted. Below Loreen and some ZBrush renders of her prosthetic. Loreen FacebookArtPage Portfolio YouTube Channel Instagram ArtStation EtsyStore

E-Nable Prosthetics Part 2: Aria
Aria was actually my first project with SFRobotics. She requested a Disney's Frozen themed hand along with her name on the side. Princess Aria was added. Layout was determined in Maya and all the assets were merged down with Dynamesh. As more projects were developed ZBrush took care of more jobs than just dynameshing. Later MatchMaker, & slicing came into play. Aria testing her hand on Christmas day. Final print. Later new and different materials were used. Even a translucent icy version. ZBrush viewport shot. Class of SFRobotics handling, printing the files. Class of SFRobotics assembling the gauntlet. Aria Excellent video presented by Rockin Robin Media. E-Nable Prosthetics Part 1: Dante
Hi folks. I've never posted about these things before, but thought I might post now since its the last day of 2015. Its been a good year in many ways, and this is definitely one of those reasons. I've been a member of the E-Nable organisation for over a year now, and have been very fortunate to collaborate with a Robotics school in Wisconsin, America. The school is named SFRobotics and ran by Peter Graven. http://enablingthefuture.org/ Together with myself living on the tiny Island of Malta we have collaborated to design and decorate these prosthesis in our spare time. We have created aesthetically fun designs that are specifically asked for by each recipient. This couldn't be done without ZBrush. The use of Dynamesh, subtraction operations, as well as sculpting were pivotal for each design. The original files are open source and available on ThingyVerse. But over time I have updated the gauntlets to suit our needs. Below I shall post all the projects we have worked on together so far, we've done quite a few. All images were taken by both Peter Graven and myself. This is young Dante. His hero is Spiderman. I subtracted grooves in the palm, and later the class of SFRobitcs filled the grooves with black rubber webbing. Before the rubber webbing idea we considered printing out the fingers as separate red, black and blue pieces.Quite involved. Thankfully the class had many good suggestions. Dante Regional news covered the story of Dante at this link here. At the bottom is some news video footage of Dante receiving is prosthetic. http://cdnapi.kaltura.com/index.php/extwidget/openGraph/wid/1_bcv4p4pp FacebookArtPage Portfolio YouTube Channel Instagram ArtStation

Koba Resin Cast Sculpture from ZBrush sculpt.
I did this some time ago, but never posted about it here until now. Some months after the Koba Sculpt above I got my Flashforge printer and begun some projects. Small resin cast Koba sculptures were among the first things I did. I resculpted Koba's fur and placed him on a classical bust plinth. 3D printed him and proceeded to make moulds and cast polyester resin copies. The results were very nice. I learnt a lot in the process. You can get one of these sculptures over at my Etsy page. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Geekblivion https://www.etsy.com/shop/Geekblivion www.jonathanshaller.com

3D Printed Custom Wacom Pen Holders continued....part 3
This was the 3rd in my series of pen holders. I loved the ideas that the pen could act as the hilt of the mallet or any weaponry with a long hilt. Like all the above it took a bit of time to reach the right scale of hammer and hole for the pen. You would also be amazed at what it takes to get a pen to rest centred to the opening of the hole at that angle without resting on the side of the hole by gravity. A good bit of prototyping took place to land the right model. https://www.facebook.com/GeekblivionArt/ https://www.etsy.com/shop/Geekblivion?ref=hdr_shop_menu

This was the second pen holder I sculpted. Each sculpture is designed to print from an extruder based 3D printer without any supports. Supports often leave marks where they are removed, and I wanted a hassle free and clean solution. Each print can take between 4.5 and 6hrs with just the correct amount of infill. https://www.facebook.com/GeekblivionArt/ bwD9wP9o7I8

Custom 3D Printed Wacom Pen Holders
Hi folks. I've been working on some custom 3D Printed Wacom pen holders over several months. Sculpted in ZBrush and printed on a Flashforge Dreamer. Its been a labour of love. Plenty of prototyping, failure and eventually successes. Its been fun. Here is the first in the collection. Video breakdowns will follow in good time. If anyone would like to keep up on the development of these holders you can follow my Facebook Art page for more details and photography at https://www.facebook.com/GeekblivionArt/ Whilst working on video games for over a decade I have a strong interest in transitioning towards the Toy, Action Figure industries.
