Let's familiarize ourselves a little better with ZRemesher's DetectEdges functionality. In this Lesson example, we'll take a gear model that has a triangulated mesh with no PolyGroups or no mesh ID, but has edges to help utilize the DetectEdges function. Once DetectEdges is activated, we can convert our mesh to quad based geometry, create PolyGroups, and most importantly retain our clean or hard edges. This function can assist with future mesh editing including Dividing and sculpting or features that utilize PolyGroups.

The Ring
The engagement ring, the most difficult project in my life. I wanted to have a perfect engagement ring and as I'm 3D artist I decided to make on myself. I spend a lot of time doing research about designing and manufacturing jewellery. Initial design was started just like a photo bash. I needed to explore ideas as quick as possible. Then came ZBrush part, I converted few designs into 3D and kept improving them, later on I decided which one was the best. The final design features details from our relationship (ornaments from Barcelona's cafe, part of a poster from Alfons Mucha, flowers from the box which I bought for the ring, etc.). Ready for production model was sent to a jewellery company who printed it in high resolution wax and cast it in gold. As I said before the rings creation was a real challenge for me, especially as my, at that time, girlfriend mustn't have an idea that something was going on. However I was successful and we are happily married now. Everything done in ZBrush, render in Keyshot and post processed in Affinity Photo.

Congratulations! And congratulations! Very well done! I made just rings stuff for regular birthdays, so far and luckily we have already married, long before 3D printing was like it is today So I partly feel the responsibility. Anyway, seems...

Magnific! I also made rings recently, more exactly 2, the wedding rings for me and my wife. It's so nice to see more projects like this on zbrush central

Vodnik
My entry for the Clash of Creatures 2017 by 3D Proven Systems. Vodnik is a mythical creature from the Czech (Slavic) legends. In English his name can be translated as a Water Goblin. He usually appears as a creepy pipe smoking beast. Mixture between man, frog and fish dressed in a green suit and hat with ribbons. His home is in pond banks near reeds and willow trees. He drowns those who pass by and collect theirs souls in lid-covered cups under the water. I created this digital maquette entirely in ZBrush, rendered it in Keyshot and did postproduction in Affinity Photo.

Satan's Maid - Clash of Creatures 2016 entry
Creepy minion bringing coffee in the morning, dealing with every day agenda or doing some dirty business for his master. He was made as an entry for the Clash of Creatures 2016 by 3D Proven Systems. Please vote here: http://www.mnrmag.com/Voting/ The goal was to create digital maquette to show design and feel of the character. I also tested new workflow. Everything was modelled and painted entirely in ZBrush, then transferred to Keyshot. No UVs, no textures, just sculpt with a polypaint. Very simple and artistic approach, free from all technical and annoying things. Postproduction was done in Affinity Photo. High resolution here SaveSave

Hi guys, After releasing my reel, it's time to start another personal project. Few years back I promised my sister that I'll model her pet. Green Iguana named Charlie. I want to create high quality film production ready piece. It'll be ready for rigging (hopefully it'll be rigged by Jakub Krompolc), and it'll also have skeleton underneath for better deformation and muscle binding. I'm currently working on basic model sketch to have forms, proportions and shapes settled and on the skeleton structure. Next stage will be retopology and detailing. Till now everything was done in ZBrush, I used ZSpheres for basemesh and then classic process with Dynameshing and ZRemeshing. Stay tunned a lot of progress will be coming, you can also follow me on TWITTER and Instagram.

Modeling reel 2015
Hi guys, I just finished my first showreel ever. It's focused on modeling and there are the best models I've made. Every piece (excluding motorbike) was made using ZBrush. You can check reel breakdown for more information - https://goo.gl/EbaESk I have to mention that I used FlippedNormals Lighting scene as a base for my setup. And last, but not least I'M AVAILABLE FOR CONTRACT! MODELING REEL 2015 - JAN JINDA from Jan Jinda on Vimeo.

xCyborg - thanks mate, as I wrote above, renders were made using MODO and Antonio was rendered in Arnold. As for skin detail, it was sculpted by combination of hand sculpt, alphas and then reprojection of color textures from Mari.

I started with speed sculpting and taking sculpting more seriously in 2015. Here you can find my attempts based on themes and rules presented by Facebook group Daily Spit Sculpt. I'll keep posting as much as I can. Workflow is pretty simple. ZBrush, sphere, dynamesh, zmodeler, fibermesh, ZBrush render, Photoshop. Theme - Grammar Nazi (sculpt, paint and hair 45min, render and composition 20min) Theme - Monkey Island (sculpt, paint and hair 75min, render and composition 20min) Theme - Heartbroken monster (sculpt 45min, render and composition 45min)

Time
This is my final entry for TIME challenge. Goal was to create print ad for new TIME machine. Be sure to check full 5000px resolution here: http://bit.ly/1rkfvA8 http://bit.ly/1paSAEb http://bit.ly/1sinKjT I think that in 2055, when our TIME machine will be made, time travelling will aim to entertainment industry. People will be bored by movies and they will want something more. So The Foundry will decide to give people next level of entertainment. Huge thank for initial idea and patience belongs to my girlfriend Zuzana. Because of that, I think advertisement should follow this concept, where actual TIME machine is not important. What is important is the experience. I tried to show that you can enjoy your stay in past or future, it's up to you. Choose your TIME. As for creation process, I started in ZBrush where I sculpted hero's body from simple cube. Then I moved to MODO for retopology, props modeling, mapping, rigging. Texturing was done in MARI and for sure shading, lighting, rendering in MODO. Composition is NUKE stuff. Obviously MODO was my core 3d app, as it is for all my projects.

Will be next?
A little bit dull geek, who is applying to space program with his homemade equipment. Will he be next astronaut on the Moon? I started with him as an entry to Luxology challenge, I took second place with heavy WIP of him. Then it developed into pretty heavy and complex work. He's fully production ready, clean and animate-able topology, hires textures with details for closeups, everything is rendered etc. As for software, I used ZBrush for concept stage, then modo for modeling and rendering and ZBrush and Photoshop for texturing work. I used ZBrush heavily on this work, he was started before dynamesh, so I prepared basemeshes in modo and then I made concept in ZBrush, then I used it for detailing work, there is really a lot of sculpting done. I also used ZBrush for posing, with help of transpose master and zsphere rig it's incredibly easy and efficient. Fish is completely done in ZBrush, using shadowbox, dynamesh and transpose master. 5K render where you can enjoy all details.

After a little while I have something new for you. At Kickstarter I've found great book project from CreatureBox, I was browsing their work and I've decided to model one of their creatures. Original concept by CreatureBox. I've made him completely in zbrush to get more experience with new features. Final image is done in photoshop, turntable is pure zbrush, no postproduction, just BRP filters. enjoy!

In 2010 I was working on quite interesting project and it's time to share the result. The movie was a sequel to 40 years old "fairy tale". I don't want to talk about movies quality, nor story nor final VFX (guys had really lot of work and they've done great job delivering all shots in such a small team.) I was hired by Qbone studio to model and texture two characters based on their concept arts. Bazilisek, who was slimy, creepy creature and servant in fairyland, he was supporting character. I really polished my pipeline on this character, using modo, topogun, zbrush and photoshop. In the images you can find my 5K test render done in modo, zbrush grabs and topology. Rehor was one of the leading characters, he's professor in school of wizardry and also dwarf. Because of his importance in movie, I was supervised by Robin Benes, who was leading model supervisor on this project. It was great experience according to making proper topology and textures. I enjoyed working on this character a lot. You can also check my 5K render from modo, using my own skin shader, also wire and zbrush grabs. (He***8217;s missing beard, which were than made by guys in Qbone.) I hope you'll like those models, I'm very proud of them. Be sure to check turntable video below. Also check those 5K renders on my website.

Jan Jinda - Sketchbook v2 including timelapses
Hi there, You can check my previous sketchbook here - http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?57697-Sketchbook-Jan-IcemanJ-Jinda, there you can find my beginnings and early works. Now, it's time to start new one, with more serious works. I've just begun to do some doodles, to improve my sculpting skill, and I hope that I'll post more and more rapidly. First one took me about few hours. It's famous early movies actor Bela Lugosi and he's my second likeness. I hope that he's recognizable. I also know that there are some inaccuracies, but I want to move to next sculpt. Here's original photo http://www.doctormacro.com/Images/Lugosi, Bela/Annex/Annex - Lugosi, Bela_06.jpg and turntable

Hi there, I want to share my last work with you. It supposed to be just sculpting excercise, I wanted finally learn hardsurface sculpting. And I have to say, that I like ZBrush approach to hardsurface, it's different, but very useful for sketching and much faster then modeling it traditionaly in polys. But a little bit poly consuming, this model have 95mil polygons before decimation, after that 4mil. And I have to say, that during work with this heavy tool, ZBrush never crashed, that's great. At the end I decided to render it in modo and here's the result. I hope you like it. I also have to mention that Frankie is based on concept art from famous Miles Teves. frankie_render_final_small.jpg frankie_zb_grab_small.jpg

Hi there, after a long time of commercial work, which improved my skills a lot. Under leadership of tes3d (top row goblin guy), it was impossible to not improve myself. I've started working on character to modo challenge, I didn't finished it until deadline, but I'm still working on it. I want to share with you with my progress. ZBrush was heavily used on this piece. Mainly at concepting stage, you can check images, then on mapping, using amazing UVMaster, with sculpting detailed models and final for now for painting textures. Head is completely handmade, alphas vere used to sculpt details and all textures all polypainted (except eyes). All stuff is rendered in modo (except concept, made with BPR). Skin shader is my own, because modo doesn't have skin shader, I had to do it myself. I tried to copy mental ray skin. I hope you like him, more stuff is about to come. modonaut_head_04.jpg modonaut_008.jpg suit_02.jpg wire.jpg For more progress and info visit my luxology thread.

thanks to everybody, a lot I decided to try some traditional approach to art. I used clay for a first time, not counting with twisted cups at high school. And I have to say that is really complicated for me, main things which I miss are move brush and symmetry. (As you can see I’ve cut off second half, it’s looking much better without it ) So here you can see my first clay attempt, I hope that I’ll bring you some more traditional stuff soon. clay_head1_01.jpg

Doggy's game - 1 hour timelapse
Hi there, I decided to take part in challenge at one czech website about 3d. Task was to create human, animal or some robot, that are all rules. I've chosen to sculpt dog from design from my ex-colleague academic painter Jiri Stamfest. You can check his concept bellow. I started with ZSketch, I wanted to try it, but during process I found, that it's not right way, for me, maybe it's matter of training. After that I made simple basemesh and started classic sculpting. I've recorded whole process and now I want to share it with you, I hope you'll like it. ZSketch took me about 3 days and on the rest about 4 days. I hope you like final model and I hope that you'll enjoy timelapse. Concept art by Jiri Stamfest Doggy's game timelapses on youtube and here is final clay render and few zbrush renders comments are very welcome doggy_FINAL_CLAY.jpg doggy_final_001.jpg doggy_final_002.jpg doggy_final_003.jpg doggy_final_004.jpg
