Go In Depth with...ZRemesher 3.0 - DetectEdges
Let's familiarize ourselves a little better with ZRemesher's DetectEdges functionality. In this Lesson example, we'll take a gear model that has a triangulated mesh with no PolyGroups or no mesh ID, but has edges to help utilize the DetectEdges function. Once DetectEdges is activated, we can convert our mesh to quad based geometry, create PolyGroups, and most importantly retain our clean or hard edges. This function can assist with future mesh editing including Dividing and sculpting or features that utilize PolyGroups.

Sample Projects for Real-Time NPR
Thought I would share one of the models I completed during the development of ZBrush 2019. This model was done with the new Spotlight SnapShot3D mode. I also designed and modeled this ship using the Preview>Flat Shadows mode with a Flat Shade Material. I knew that I wanted a final toon look with an outline. It was great to just work with the model in real-time as I built with out having to worry about it looking different when I rendered. I experimented with a couple of materials but I ended up using FlatShade01. Here is a project with all 5 materials and with the settings I used to render all of these images. Feel free to download and experiment. Download Project Here FlatShade01 FlatShade02 FlatShade03 FlatShade04 FlatShade05 Here is what all of the materials look like on a sphere in the attached project. Enjoy Paul

Making a Dragon Tattoo (cont.)
Render Time. Here are the steps I did to get the render to look more like an illustration with the ZBrush BPR. I then used the image in Spotlight to apply it as a tattoo to a character. Below you will find a link to download a project with a cube in Edit Mode with all of my render settings used to render the dragon, enjoy. DOWNLOAD PROJECT FILE HERE

Making a Dragon Tattoo
Hello Here is a step-by-step of the dragon piece that I completed for the most recent ZBrush Webinar - Don't Just Build It, ArrayMesh It. This is a render with two lights and BasicMaterial2 selected. This is the final Tattoo render using BPR in ZBrush. Here is a little breakdown of how I made the scale. More steps in the next post.

Hi Paul (again, it was great meeting you at CTN a couple of years ago). You know I really like your work. Everything you just put up is 'ACE'. I really like your 'Robot #12 BabyBot', man, that surface is beautiful.

March Of Robots 2016
Hello I've been doing the March of Robots challenge that you can find out more about here, http://marchofrobots.com/home-2016/. Pretty much the goal is to create 1 robot a day and give myself only an hour to do it. I'm only using ZBrush and Keyshot. Enjoy. Thank you everyone for all the kind comments. I've been working on a Gundam for my class. I'm pretty much done with the modeling. I started off the piece with Dynamesh and then work on using the Topology brush, ZSphere retopo and primitives to get my basemeshes. After that everything was ZModeler. Now I need to get going on the paint and decals. More to come soon. Enjoy

Nice Gundam, Paul! I've enjoyed seeing the uptick in clean, deliberate hardsurface design around these parts that has accompanied the release of ZModeler, as opposed to more kitbashy approaches. Not that there's anything wrong with the latter, I'm...

Ok so it's been a long time since I posted anything so I thought I would start sharing some items I've been working on. Still have several ideas but as always, not sure I'll be able to finish them off. Let's start with the grasshopper. I thought of an idea. What if I took any animal or insect and turned it into a MECH. Here was my first idea, THE GRASSHOPPER. I wanted to put him in a scene where there are several grasshoppers in a race. I first painted him with the typical green color and then thought, what would he look like red. Everything was modeled in ZBrush about a year and half ago. Rendered in Keyshot. Starting to print him out today. Enjoy.
