Let's familiarize ourselves a little better with ZRemesher's DetectEdges functionality. In this Lesson example, we'll take a gear model that has a triangulated mesh with no PolyGroups or no mesh ID, but has edges to help utilize the DetectEdges function. Once DetectEdges is activated, we can convert our mesh to quad based geometry, create PolyGroups, and most importantly retain our clean or hard edges. Working on something different. Just some regular guy I liked from some street fashion photography. I am not sure if I am going to fabric texture on him or not. I usually think it looks noisy but have also seen it done really well. It might help sell the tweed jacket. Any opinions?

slocik: thanks for your thoughts! Yea it's very simple. I just wanted it to be done! I just wanted to let you guys know that I uploaded a new plugin. This one is aimed at helping make tiling meshes. Sorta geared towards environment artists. Check it out here!

@Jagoro: Yea man. I love that guys work. I never noticed how similar they were. Those creatures in MTG are such a departure from the usually Magic monsters. I liked them alot. @Aliasofall, SolidSnakexxx, Dman3d: Thanks so much guys! Here is a MentalRay render I am messing with. I don't know MentalRay very well....

Here is a little sketch I have been working on at night. Following this awesome concept by RobotPencil. I also made a scale mail IMM brush. I posted it in the Repository thread but thought I would post it here too if anyone missed that thread. It was fun. I plan on making some more!

Sorry about the late reply. I didn't see the email that there was new replies! Thanks everyone for your comments. I am going to post something new I have been working on in a few days. I just want to clean a couple things up @bakedbeing: Sure... this topo is really ugly. There were so many spikes and stuff I had to make alot of cuts and tris. Not really pretty to look at.

Thanks for pushing me forwards guys! stefanobernardi: xNormal all the way! I make the cages in 3dsmax and export an SBM file for xNormal. I did make a lightmap in 3dsmax this time tho. Ok. I am pretty sure I am done. It doesn't look like much changed but I added alot more spec and alittle red to the bone/fleshy parts.

Aliasofall: Thanks man. Yea when you are doing personal stuff its hard to make it look crappy for just a few tris. Here is some diffuse shots. Most of it is just the Polypaint bake + AO. Still got some work to do on the spec and stuff but coming along....

Haha thanks guys. You can go ahead and squash it. Not dead! Just in a different state... Here is the low mesh with normals. It's about 15.5k tris. A little high... but sorta had to with all the spikes. I got a little clean up to do around the teeth but over-all it was a very clean bake. I was sorta surprised. I expected all those spikes and folds to wreck havoc. All those spikes took FOREVER to retopo too. I don't want to make another spikey thing for a while....

Some PP on the legs. I am... not sure how I feel about them. The concept wasn't totally fleshed out in this area so I am winging it. So I did a little paintover making the area where they connect to the body darker and adding some more purple to the legs. My concern with this one is that it creates a big separation where the legs connect. I sorta like the way the other one more seamlessly transitions into the legs. What do you guys think?
